What is a landing page and why do you need one?
If you run a small business, you’ve probably asked yourself: do you really need a full multi-page website, or is a single page enough?
In many cases, starting with a large website is not necessary at all. For a specific service, product, or advertising campaign, a landing page — a one-page website created with one specific goal — can be much more effective.
In this article, we’ll look at what a landing page is, how it differs from a regular website, who it is suitable for, and what elements make a landing page effective.
What exactly is a landing page?
Landing page is a standalone web page designed to achieve a specific goal.
For example:
• get a customer enquiry;
• book a service;
• schedule a consultation;
• request a free quote;
• purchase a specific product;
• book a service;
• call or contact a company.
Unlike a regular corporate website, a landing page does not try to tell visitors everything about the business at once. It focuses on one offer and one main action.
That is why a well-designed landing page guides visitors through a specific journey: first introducing the offer, then showing its benefits and proof of quality, and finally encouraging them to take the next step.
This is why landing pages are often used as destinations for advertising campaigns from Google, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, email campaigns, and other channels.
What is a landing page used for?
1. To present one specific service
A landing page is ideal if you want to promote a specific area of your business.
For example:
• home renovation;
• house painting;
• air conditioning installation;
• photography;
• cleaning services;
• interior design;
• manicure;
• beauty treatments;
• car repair.
Instead of making visitors search for the service they need across your entire website, you can create a dedicated page focused entirely on that particular offer.
2. To generate enquiries from advertising
This is one of the most common uses of a landing page.
Imagine an advertisement:
Professional House Painting — Free Estimate
A potential customer clicks the ad and is taken not to the company’s general homepage, but directly to a page dedicated to this offer.
There, they immediately see:
• a description of the service;
• the company’s advantages;
• photos of completed projects;
• customer reviews;
• answers to frequently asked questions;
• an enquiry form;
• a Get a Free Quote button.
The entire page therefore works towards one goal — helping the visitor make a decision and contact the company.
3. To launch a new product or service
There is not always a reason to build a large website immediately.
If you are launching a new product, course, service, or special offer, you can create a separate landing page and test audience interest.
If the offer proves successful, the website can be expanded later.
4. To establish a small business online
For a small business, a full website with 10–20 pages may simply not be necessary.
For example, an independent professional, photographer, designer, painter, or small studio can often achieve everything they need with one well-designed page that shows:
who you are → what you do → examples of your work → why people should trust you → how to contact you.
In this case, a one-page website allows you to create a professional online presence quickly, without the complex structure of a large corporate website.
What makes a good landing page?
There is no single universal template for a good landing page. Its structure depends on the business, the audience, and the specific goal of the page. However, most effective landing pages use several important elements.
The first screen
The first screen is what visitors see immediately after opening the page. Within a few seconds, they should understand: what you offer and why it might be relevant to them.
For example:
Professional House & Commercial Painting
Careful workmanship, quality materials, and a free written estimate.
And next to it — a clear button: Get a Free Quote
Visitors should not have to guess what the company does or what they should do next.
Benefits
Here, you answer the question: “Why should I choose you?”
For example:
• 14 years of experience;
• licensed professionals;
• workmanship guarantee;
• high-quality materials;
• on-time completion;
• free project assessment.
The benefits should be specific. Phrases such as “high quality,” “personalised approach,” and “professional team” do not say much on their own. Real facts, experience, guarantees, and actual results are much more convincing to potential customers.
Services
A landing page should clearly explain exactly what the customer receives.
For a painting company, for example, this could include:
• interior painting;
• exterior painting;
• commercial painting;
• kitchen cabinet refinishing;
• wallpaper removal;
• colour consultation.
Each service should be easy to understand, even for someone without specialised knowledge.
Project gallery
For many types of businesses, photos communicate far more than long descriptions.
Visual content is particularly important for:
• renovation;
• construction;
• design;
• beauty;
• photography;
• manufacturing;
• handmade products;
• architecture;
• cleaning services;
• painting.
It is much easier for a potential customer to evaluate the quality of your work when they can see real results.
That is why a portfolio on a landing page is not simply a decorative element, but an important part of the decision-making process.
Customer reviews
Reviews help reduce doubts before contacting a business. A good review shows not only that the customer was satisfied, but also what problem they wanted to solve and what the result was. Whenever possible, reviews should be supported by the customer’s name, photo, or other credible information.
FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions
This section helps answer questions that might otherwise prevent a potential customer from submitting an enquiry.
For example:
How long does the work take?
Do I need to purchase the materials?
Do you work with commercial properties?
Do you offer a guarantee?
How much does an initial assessment cost?
FAQ helps address common objections in advance and saves visitors from having to search for answers themselves.
Call to action
In marketing, this is called a CTA — Call to Action. It is the specific action you want the visitor to take.
For example:
• Get a Quote
• Book a Consultation
• Order a Service
• Get an Offer
• Contact Us
The CTA should be clear. Visitors should immediately understand what will happen after they click the button.
At the same time, you do not necessarily need to use the same button throughout the entire page. Different sections can offer a logical next step depending on what information the visitor has just received.
A landing page does not have to be a template
Sometimes, a landing page is understood as a simple page assembled from ready-made blocks.
But a modern landing page can be a fully customised website with its own design, responsive layout, animations, forms, SEO settings, and an administrative panel.
Technically, a landing page can therefore be just as high-quality and professionally developed as a large corporate website.
The main difference is in its purpose and structure — not in the quality of development.
